Mechanicsburg Implement Inc. began in the garage
of Leroy Blazer in the early 1960's. When a fire
destroyed the dealership in 1978 Leroy decided it was
the perfect time to expand. Leroy eventually sold
the business to family relatives and current owners,
Bill and Karen Blazer in 1987. Since taking over
the business Bill and Karen and their three daughters
have striven to maintain a strong sense of family within
the company both with employees as well as their
customers.
"The success of our business is due in no small part to
the loyalty of our employees as well as our customers."
said Tamara Blazer Ford, Operations Manager for the
business. "We try to emphasize honesty, customer
service and a family atmosphere within our company."
Tamara, who has worked for Mechanicsburg Implement for
fifteen years, has grown up with the business.
"Many of the employees have seen me around here since I
was a little kid." Tamara said. "The
relationship our family has with our employees are like
a family within a family."
Mechanicsburg Implement Inc. is situated on a 6.6-acre
lot. The main building is a 14,000 square ft.
structure that houses customer sales, equipment shop,
service and parts department as well as the business
office. A second 6,600 square ft. is used for
equipment storage and the bulk sales of twine and crop
preservatives. The dealership carries a full line
of new and used
New Holland
Farm Equipment ranging from skid loaders and
combines to full size 500 HP TJ series and the
Boomer compact tractors. They
also carry
Kinze equipment. The Kinze planter is
the company's biggest selling item. "One of the
reasons Kinze sells so well for us is because they are a
family based business that manufactures quality
equipment and offers a wide range of choices in their
planters," Tamara explained. The dealership also
carries a full line of new and used
Kubota
equipment from tractors
right on down to lawn and garden equipment.
Currently Mechanicsburg Implement is featuring the
Kubota RTV 900 utility vehicle. This is the
workhorse of utility vehicles that has a range that
includes general hauling purposes for farming
operations, professional lawn and garden operations as
well as a superior recreational vehicle for the weekend
farmer. In addition to new and used tractors, combines and
planters, Mechanicsburg Implement also carries a full
line of
Rhino and
M&W mowers and
Kongskilde augers.
Besides equipment the company also handles the complete
line of Pioneer seed products.
One of the most recent areas the business has ventured
into is crop insurance. Betty Mowrey is the
company's agent along with Jon Berry who also handles
the sales of Pioneer seed and equipment sales. It
is also important to note that Jon is a certified
agronomist with the necessary knowledge to assist
farmers with their planting and growing needs.
"Crop insurance is the same price everywhere, so the
primary factor in selling insurance to a farmer lies in
the customer service end." Tamara said.
Mechanicsburg Implement must be doing something right as
their insurance sales have more than doubled within the
last year.
The company offers a full service department with 4
fully operational bays and can accommodate up to 8 bays
when necessary. Glenn Griffin is the Service
Manager who oversees a staff of four fulltime mechanics.
The department services everything from large farm
equipment right on down to lawn mowers.
Complementing the service department is the company's
parts department. Tamara's younger sister, Torre
works in the parts department. Another sister,
Tricia, had worked in parts but was recently forced to
take a leave of absence due to her young son having
severe health problems. Don Zerkle is the Parts
Manager. Zerkle also handles all computer
operations and supervises the parts department staff.
Don also holds the record of being the employee who has
worked the longest for the company, marking in 35 years.
Jim Sanford is Mechanicsburg Implement's General Manager
who also oversees the equipment sales department.
Jim has been with the company for 30 years.
Rounding out the Blazer family involvement is Donna
Graham, Tamara's grandmother, who handles the
bookkeeping for Blazer Farms. "Between the family
members and all of our employees we have over 300 years
of experience." said Tamara.
Bill and Karen Blazer also own and run a 3200-acre farm
operation in Champaign, Union and Madison counties.
The farm raises crops of corn, soybeans and wheat.
Bill Blazer has been a member of the Farm Service
Agency. He is also a member of the Ohio Corn
Growers Association and the Ohio Soybean Growers
Association. Blazer was named Farmer of the Year
in the early 90's. In 1971 he received the second
generation American Farmer Degree. Bill was also
named Star State Farmer in the late 60's. Daughter
Tamara has followed in her father's foot-steps.
She was awarded the third generation American Farmer
Degree in 1989. With this type of agricultural
experience in the family it is quite obvious that the
Blazers can offer their customers expert advice on just
about any farming needs.
"One of the biggest challenges we face as a business is
our competition," said Tamara. The company's
customer base covers west central Ohio as well as Union,
Logan, Franklin, Clark, Champaign, and Madison counties.
"The competition in the agricultural equipment business
in this area is very strong. Our facilities are
just 12 miles from the largest John Deere dealership in
the world. To be able to compete with something
like that we have to be able to offer the customer
something more than just a line of equipment."
What Mechanicsburg Implement offers is a strong emphasis
of customer service and a family atmosphere. "We
are fortunate to have a longevity with our employees,"
said Tamara. "By having employees who have worked
here for so long, that translates well into customer
service. In the case of regular customers our
sales and service staff are on a first name basis with
them and are ready to assist in any way they can with a
customer's needs. The business has been in the
community for quite a few years and we take our ability
to respond to the customer and his or her needs as a
high priority. That is a big reason why we put the
emphasis on family both with our employees as well as
customers. Since we have a staff with a combined
experience of so many years we feel that this strength
in numbers gives us the edge we need to be a success."
Mechanicsburg Implement Inc. is located at 12444 E.
